Calling all middle school science teachers! Join the researchers at USDA/Agricultural Research Service Coastal Plain Soil, Water and Plant Research Center, Florence, SC., for a FREE two-day Future Scientists Program workshop! Discover how to bring cutting-edge agricultural research to life in your science classroom. 

The Future Scientists Program is designed to assist USDA/ARS Laboratories in connecting to local communities and schools. The goal is to inspire teachers and students to explore STEM-based science, develop student potential and encourage students to pursue science courses in college and ultimately enter the science career pipeline as Future Scientists.

Over the two-day workshop, educators will learn about the following: 

  • Digital microscope technology 
  • How lasers are used in agriculture
  • Soil science and worm composting 
  • Environmental Modeling & computer-based research
  • Monarch butterfly populations and migration and much more! 

Participants will receive the following: 

  • Educational materials, lunch, and snacks
  • Free Scientific Equipment for Your Classroom!! 
  • A Class Visit to the Research Unit
  • A visit to your classroom by a visiting scientist! 

District-level certificate of completion for attending both days.
