Dr. Marie Vitulli, Professor Emerita, Department of Mathematics, University of Oregon will be on campus as part of the TIGERS ADVANCE Distinguished Speaker Series. Dr. Vitulli's research focus is in commutative algebra and applications to algebraic geometry. A strong proponent of increasing representation of women in mathematics, Vitulli was recognized by the Association for Women in Mathematics as a Falconer Lecturer in 2014, received a Service Award in 2017 and was elected as a Fellow of the society in 2019. Her lecture is titled “ Algebra and Geometry Throughout History: A Symbiotic Relationship.” Her visit is hosted by the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences and the Clemson Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics. In addition to her Distinguished Speaker Series Lecture, Dr. Vitulli will facilitate a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon to train people to edit and write wikipedia pages to help increase the representation of women and underrepresented groups in Wikipedia. This workshop will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26 hosted by Clemson DINAMICS. For more information visit https://science.clemson.edu/dinamics/jan-2019-wikipedia-edit-a-thon/
