Ann Reid, National Center for Science Education (NCSE), will speak as part of 2018-19 TIGERS ADVANCE Distinguished Speaker Series. Prior to her appointment in 2014 as Executive Director for the NCSE, Reid worked as a research biologist at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, where she was responsible for sequencing the 1918 flu virus. She served as a Senior Program Officer at the National Research Council's Board on Life Sciences for five years and most recently, as director of the American Academy of Microbiology. She will speak on the importance of science literacy in public education. Her visit is co-hosted by Clemson's College of Education and the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Science.
