South Carolina WHEP Contest

Welcome to South Carolina WHEP!

The Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP) is a hands-on environmental education program that provides participants an opportunity to test their wildlife knowledge in a friendly competition, as each state supporting WHEP conducts an annual contest where teams of 3-4 similarly aged individuals gather.

WHEP is a 4-H and FFA youth natural resource program dedicated to teaching wildlife and fisheries habitat management to junior and senior level (ages 9 - 18) youth in the United States.

This contest will be hosted virtually in 2021 and feature habitat from Nemours Plantation Wildlife Foundation in Yemassee, SC.

Event t-shirts (for youth, coaches, and parents) can be purchased here for $10 + tax/shipping. Order by April 23rd and all shirts will be printed and shipped directly to participants once registration closes.

Registration for the 2021 SC WHEP Contest is FREE. Youth may register as a team (3 or 4 people per team) or as an individual.  Ages are calculated as of January 1, 2021. The contest is set up for Junior Division (9-13 years of age) and Senior Division (14-18 years of age).

In addition to content provided throughout the week with special guests, the virtual contest's activities will include:

  • Wildlife Challenge
  • On-site Recommendations of Wildlife Management Practices (Seniors only)
  • Presentation of Management Plan (Teams only)

Scenarios and tests will be provided beginning Monday, May 3rd. The Wildlife Challenge and On-site Recommendations need to be completed by Friday, May 7th at NOON, as well as visual aids (i.e., slides) for the Presentation of the Management Plan. Presentations of the Management Plans will occur live on Saturday, May 8th at a pre-scheduled time on Zoom.
