About this Event
The best time to ID grasses is when they are in the reproductive stage. In this class we’ll explore cool-season native grasses (CSNG’s) that grow most actively in late fall-winter-spring seasons. Their photosynthesis and metabolism are adapted to cooler temperatures, 35F to 75F. Learn the useful identification characteristics of grasses (leaves, stems, flower parts, etc.). Then, during afternoon field work, identify various cool-season native grasses species in their natural habitat. Your expert guide is Bill Stringer, Associate Professor Emeritus of Agronomy and Soils. Prerequisite: Basic Botany.
