SciencePREP Seminar Series

"Please Go Away: Internationalizing Education"

Our Guest speaker is Dr. AJ Medford, an assistant professor in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech who studies materials informatics, statistics, and machine learning. His lecture will explore how students can integrate international experiences into their education and future career paths.

Join as we trace Medford's untraditional and somewhat unlikely path from a high-school student who had never left the country to an Assistant Professor who has studied or worked on four continents and visited over 30 countries. Various aspects of the logistics and benefits of "going away" will be discussed, and advice on finding and applying for funding opportunities will be presented. Miscellaneous insights and experiences from working on research projects in multiple fields in various domestic and international universities will also be presented.
