Join Clemson Extension and Charleston Waterkeeper for an Adopt-A-Stream (SC AAS) Volunteer Workshop for Tidal Saltwater Monitoring. This free workshop will certify individuals to become SC AAS volunteers who choose to adopt a tidal saltwater site (waterway with a salinity of over 0.5 ppt). Attendees will learn how to collect water samples and test six basic core parameters: dissolved oxygen, air temperature, water temperature, pH, salinity, and transparency. Volunteers are encouraged to sample a tidal saltwater site, monthly, to establish valuable data on baseline conditions of your waterbody. Individuals must pass an open book exam to become certified volunteers and be able to enter data into the publicly accessible database.

This two-day hybrid workshop will include a virtual Zoom presentation and in-person field training.

Day 1 - Virtual Zoom Presentation: January 20 | 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Day 2 - Field Training: January 21 | 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

You must attend both sessions to become a certified water quality monitor! The field portion will take place rain or shine. Please bring rain boots/old shoes, a reusable water bottle, and snacks if desired.
