Become a certified citizen scientist and learn how to monitor water quality in tidal saltwater!
This workshop will certify individuals as SC Adopt-a-Stream volunteers to monitor tidal saltwater sites (waterways with a salinity of over 0.5 ppt).
Attendees will learn how to collect water samples and test six basic core parameters: dissolved oxygen, air temperature, water temperature, pH, salinity, and transparency.
Volunteers must pass an open book exam to become certified and be able to enter data into the publicly accessible database. Monthly sampling is encouraged to establish valuable baseline data conditions of your waterbody.
This FREE in-person workshop will have an indoor classroom and an outdoor field component. Please come prepared to get into a stream for the field portion of the workshop, and bring a reusable water bottle and lunch. Desserts and drinks will be provided!
SC Adopt-a-Stream seeks to educate SC residents about impacts to water quality and habitat AND collect baseline, non-regulatory data on the health of our waterways.
Space is limited, so please register soon!
