About this Event
South Carolina Adopt-a-Stream (SC AAS) creates a network of watershed stewardship, engagement, and education through involvement. SC AAS volunteers can play an important role in monitoring and tracking water quality while sharing information about local water resources with their communities. In providing baseline information about stream conditions, volunteers, local communities, educators, and local government agencies can partner to protect and restore our waters.
This FREE workshop will certify individuals to become SC AAS volunteers in the chemical and bacterial parameters of the program. Attendees will learn how to measure pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and temperature. The workshop will involve online instruction followed by small group in-person training in Aiken (September 9/17 - 9/18) and conclude with a written exam. Individuals must complete the exam with 80% to become certified/recertified volunteers.
Although attendees are not required to choose a stream monitoring site and begin monthly monitoring, it is highly encouraged. Anyone getting a recertification should enroll into the online recertification course.
To register please email Sierra Hylton (hyltonsf@dhec.sc.gov) the name(s) and email(s) of the participants. There is currently a 10 person cap for online workshops.
