SC Adopt-a-Stream is a statewide community science program that engages the public in monitoring water quality in streams and tidal waterways. Trained volunteers develop a greater awareness of water quality and nonpoint source pollution issues, and collect valuable data that can be shared with local agencies, organizations, and the public, encouraging partnerships that can lead to stream protection and preservation efforts.

The program is co-led by the Clemson Center for Watershed Excellence and SC DHEC, and is implemented with the help of certified volunteer Trainers, who host workshops and provide support for program participants around the state! To become certified, interested Trainers are asked to first complete one year, or 12 monitoring events, as certified volunteers; attend the Train-the-Trainer session to practice teaching workshop material and complete the Trainer certification exam; and attend the Full Trainer Team Recertification event to meet and learn from current Trainers. The events will be held in-person, locations TBD, on the following dates in 2023:

Tidal Saltwater Train-the-Trainer Event: January 25, 2023

Full Trainer Team Recertification: February 15, 2023

Are you interested in becoming a certified SC Adopt-a-Stream Tidal Saltwater Trainer? We would love to hear from you! Please email Emily Anderson at esa2@clemson.edu for more information.
