This session will provide participants with an overview of the NIH Guidelines as it relates to environmental release of transgenic plants. It will also review devitalization and validation, so no inadvertent environmental release occurs. We will also discuss challenges in field trials.

Participants will be guided through strategies for identifying potential hazards, assessing the magnitude and extent of induced risks and cost, and developing effective control measures to protect the safety of workers, plants, and the environment. This talk will employ “real world” examples to improve understanding of greenhouse and field operations.
