Drs. Rhondda R. Thomas, Sara Collini, Andrea Feeser and Joshua Catalano will interpret Clemson’s visual history through maps that depict Cherokee landholdings, Clemson University housing, and
representations of Woodland Cemetery. They will also answer questions about how we use these maps to interpret the site and encourage participants to offer their interpretations and thoughts about what these maps reveal about Clemson history.
How do maps produce or hide certain kinds of knowledge? How can bias or the history of race be considered in seemingly objective sources like an insurance map?
