You do not need to be an environmentalist, fisherman, or scholar to become a water quality monitor! All are welcome to learn how to collect data that can help protect and restore freshwater streams.

This training will provide classroom and hands-on instruction for volunteer monitors on how to collect and identify macroinvertebrates (aquatic insects) to use as water quality indicators. Individuals must pass an open book exam to become a certified volunteer and be able to enter data into the SC Adopt-a-Stream database. Volunteers are encouraged to sample freshwater streams twice per year to establish valuable data on baseline conditions of your stream.

This is an in-person event. You will be emailed more information after you RSVP for the workshop. This workshop is for new volunteers or existing volunteers looking to be recertified.
