The American Chestnut was once prolific from Canada through the Appalachians and into Mississippi, it is estimated that 25% of all trees in the Appalachian Mountains were chestnut. The Chestnut provided the logs for the Hunt and their fruit was an important source of nutrition for wildlife and settlers alike.
