Clemson University

“Grantsmanship 101” Online Workshop

This online proposal development workshop sponsored by the Office of Research Development is for Clemson faculty and postdocs interested in pursuing external funding to support their research. The workshop will cover developing a project plan; identifying and talking to a program officer; the nitty gritty of writing a proposal, stepping through typical sections and discussing what each section should accomplish and mistakes to avoid; the review process; and how to interpret and respond to reviews. We will discuss universal processes and principles related to developing strong grant proposals, with examples from various funders. Participants will engage in a number of exercises during the workshop sessions, including a mock review panel. Questions and discussions will be encouraged throughout the workshop.
Workshop Leader: Lucy Deckard established her consulting firm, Academic Research Funding Strategies, LLC in 2010. She works with universities and faculty across the U.S., helping them develop the skills to compete successfully for research funding. She has extensive experience helping to prepare proposals to a wide range of funders, including NSF, NIH, DoD, DARPA, DOE, DoED, NEH, IMLS, NASA and USDA.
