South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA), SC Organization for Organic Living (SCOOL) and Clemson University Sustainable Agriculture Program are joining together to bring you this GAP workshop on June 27th. Good Agricultural Practices are aimed at minimizing or preventing potential contamination of food caused by the producer. Because food safety should be included in a continuous system of quality control on all production practices, this training will help farmers, food buyers and restaurants, regardless of whether or not they plan to become GAP certified/require certification.
Speaker Weatherly Thomas, Food Safety Coordinator with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, will lead the training which will include food safety principles, putting together a food safety manual, a discussion of the GAP audit and then a mock audit at a local farm.
Registration for the entire day’s workshop is only $10 and includes local foods lunch prepared by Friends Farm and Catering!
