December 9, 2021 (Thursday) 10:00am – 11:30am, Online Open Discussion: Potential Prison Education Program: We invite all members of the Emeritus College to meet with the Outreach Committee and the Undergraduate Support Committee to discuss options for establishing a faculty mentoring program for SC inmates who are enrolled in college courses, using the CIS program as a model.  The most common option for incarcerated individuals who want to enroll in college courses is through paper-based correspondence courses.  The inmates then have no contact with instructor or other support individuals other than by mail.  The prison facilities do allow for inmate phone calls and video visits, which could provide a possible connection for a mentoring program.  A mentoring program has the potential to provide support for these individuals that would enhance their chances for success.
