May 20, 2021 (Thursday) 10:00am – 11:30am, Online Seminar: Reggio Emilia, Italy: Schools, Community and Inspirations with Dr. Dee Stegelin, Professor Emerita of Teaching and Learning: This session focuses on the city of Reggio Emilia, Italy, a mid-sized town in northern Italy that has greatly influenced educational settings in the USA and globally for over 30 years. The Reggio Emilia Approach to education reflects the Italian culture, with an emphasis on child well-being beginning in infancy. The schools reflect the larger Italian culture, with an emphasis on child and family well-being, relationship building, inclusiveness, and addressing health and educational needs of all children. Many photos will be shared in this EC session as well as an open discussion of how American schools and communities can learn from this Italian approach. Dr. Stegelin has studied this city and its schools for over two decades, including an annual study abroad for Clemson and other South Carolina college students for three weeks to study the schools, communities, families, and culture.
