October 19, 2021 (Tuesday) 11:00am - 12:30pm, Hybrid Seminar: Belgium: European Crossroads Part 1 with Dr. Steve Wainscott: Belgium has a reputation as a country you go THROUGH, not TO. Yet, this small country (about half the land area of South Carolina) features more UNESCO World Heritage Sites per square mile than France, Italy and the UK. Home to NATO and the European Union institutions, Belgium is also known as “Europe’s Battlefield.” In Part 1 we will examine a bit of Belgium’s history and elements of its cultural distinctiveness, including food and, yes, BEER! (Sorry, no samples provided ☹️) This session is hybrid, which means you can either come to the Emeritus College to meet in-person or join us virtually to enjoy the presentation. The technology is ready for us to be together, whether near or far!
