Emeritus College Birding Outing
- May 4, 2021 (Tuesday) 8:30am-10:30am, EC Outing: Birding at Cateechee/Norris Park with Vince Jackson: Spring is here and it is a particularly good time to observe some of the migrating birds visiting our area. The walk will be led by Vince Jackson. Vince is a life-long birder and former President of the Atlanta Audubon Society and a charter member of the Georgia Ornithological Society. Vince has led field trips across the SE and SW as well as Canada, Mexico and Trinidad helping participants identify rare and common birds we all love to see. Please join us for several hours of fun safely identifying birds in our area as the seasons change and birds begin migrating northward. Cateechee/Norris Park goes by several different names. This is the newer Pickens County Park on Hwy 137N at the bottom of the steep hill fronting 12 Mile River. This 9 acre site should be good for a variety of warblers and other birds. Plenty of free parking and excellent deck viewing of the river habitat. To reach the park drive on Hwy 93 thorough Central to Norris town limits and turn left on Hwy 137N just past Margaret’s Restaurant. Continue North for several miles to the steep downhill that crosses 12 Mile River. Immediately after crossing river bridge turn left into the river park parking area.
