Carly Drew is a visual artist who uses drawing to examine our changing relationships to place through layers of personal history, industrial changes to the terrain and the rich American landscape tradition. With roots in both Northern and Southern Appalachia, she has a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the region and a fascination with the heavy industries of mining, farming and natural gas that dwell there. Her work explores these connections to the land, politics and history that make up, stereotype and divide rural Appalachian culture.

Drew has an MFA in Visual Arts from Clemson University, a BFA in Printmaking and BA in Art History from Converse College. She
has gone on to have solo exhibitions at Tennessee Tech University, Kai Lin Art in Atlanta, and Morganton City Hall. Drew was awarded a travel grant from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art for the “Picturing the Americas” Exhibit and International Symposium, top honors from juror Chad Alligood as part of the “The Gun Show” exhibition in Little Rock and she has also been a recipient of the John Acorn Award for Studio Art from Clemson University. Her work has been reviewed by Burnaway Atlanta and published in Manifest’s INDA #11, Glimpse Magazine and 1000 Artists’ Books: Exploring the Book as Art by Sandra Salamony.

She has work in collections across the south, as well as international collections in Paris, France. She also helped co-curate “Art of the Hunt” at Greenwood Arts Center and the “Drawn South” group show at Riverworks Gallery. She is a studio artist that also teaches drawing and design at Greenville Technical College. Drew lives and maintains a studio in Landrum, South Carolina.
