About this Event

Dr. Brian Dominy earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, a Ph.D. focusing on Computational Biophysics at The Scripps Research Institute, and was an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University before joining the faculty of the Department of Chemistry in the College of Science at Clemson University in 2005. He is a computational biophysical chemist and works with undergraduate and graduate students to study the physiochemical driving forces underlying biomolecular function and evolution. Brian’s service responsibilities as a faculty member have focused significantly on the development and assessment of academic programs at the departmental, college, and University levels at Clemson. These efforts, on the part of faculty across campus, lead to improved student learning and improved degree programs. Brian’s contributions have included service through departmental, college, and university curriculum committees, the university natural science general education subcommittee, departmental and university assessment committees, the college global engagement committee, the university QEP steering committee, and as the liaison to the Office of Institutional Assessment for the College of Science. His service responsibilities have also included efforts aimed at directly supporting undergraduate students. Brian’s service in this area has been recognized through a departmental award for exemplary undergraduate major advising, and the inaugural College of Science student advocate award. Brian is currently the Associate Dean for Academic Policy and Program Effectiveness in the Graduate School. There, he leads the Academic Policy and Procedure Review Program in partnership with Dr. Misty Stewart (Director of Student Success), Dena Smith (Executive Assistant to the Dean), and the faculty and student representatives on the Graduate Advisory Committee and Graduate Council.
