With a focus on farm-related enterprises, this program will provide information to increase understanding and practical knowledge of good recordkeeping and accounting practices; farm financials; and taxes. The first portion of the program will review best recordkeeping practices and the interrelationship with tax management.

The second part of the program will cover agricultural related taxes in detail, including:

  • Best practices for small farm businesses
  • Tax implications for different business structures
  • Income types for tax purposes
  • Depreciation
  • Non-cash transactions
  • Employee vs. independent contractor
  • Livestock transactions
  • Other common agribusiness tax related topics

Instructor: Adam J. Kantrovich, Ph.D

Dr. Adam Kantrovich is an Extension Associate Professor of Agribusiness with Clemson University following 10-years with Michigan State University Extension where he spent time in the field working directly with farms and the ag industry. Dr. Kantrovich’s program specialty areas include accounting & financial analysis, succession & estate planning, agricultural tax and risk management, guest worker related issues, affordable care act for agricultural employers, and areas of ag policy. Dr. Kantrovich has past experience within the private and public sectors including faculty at other universities, the commodity futures market at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and with the U.S.D.A. APHIS.
