"Visualization and Visual Attention in Collaborative Mixed Reality Environments" presented by guest speaker Dr. Wole Oyekoya
Telepresence is the experience involved in the displacement of a remote user’s perception into a virtual environment, or the illusion of being in a real environment other than true location. The availability of low-cost sensors, tracking technologies and robotic devices for achieving telepresence has increased in recent years. Thus, telepresence solutions allow us to investigate, not only how to visualize the remote user but also how users allocate their visual attention in remote collaborative scenarios. I’ll present my work on collaboration in immersive virtual/mixed reality, different ways of representing/visualizing remote users and research on how users allocate their visual attention in these shared environments.
Dr. Wole Oyekoya joined Advanced Research Computing as a Visualization and Virtual Reality Specialist in November 2013. He received his Ph.D. from University College London in 2007 for work on eye tracking for image search and retrieval. He worked as a PostDoc Research Fellow at Middlesex University on medical image retrieval, followed by the Virtual Environments and Computer Graphics group at University College London. His research expertise includes eye tracking, distributed heterogeneous systems, attention modeling, mixed reality and virtual environments.
