The Pee Dee Region 4-H Rabbit Project provides youth a fun and hands-on learning experience that develops life skills, as well as teaches valuable information about properly caring for their animal. Subjects such as general care, nutrition, housing, and health care are presented in the curricular materials, through workshops and activities and in preparation of an exhibit. Youth also have the opportunity to develop responsibility, decision-making, nurturing, and communication skills through active participation in the 4-H Rabbit Project. The project is open to 4-H members ages 5-19 who reside in one of the counties located in the Pee Dee Region. Each project participant will have the opportunity to particpate in the Pee Dee Region 4-H Rabbit Project Show and Costume Contest tenatively set for August 22 at the Eastern Carolina Agricultural Fair in Florence, SC.
For 2018, it is the responsibility of the youth and their family to secure a rabbit for the project. We will not be supplying rabbits this year due to breeding issues with the local rabbitry farm. It does not matter what breed of rabbit you select. All project particpants should have their rabbit no later than April 27. A list of rabbit sources will be distributed to all registrants after March 15. You may e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like a list of area breeders that you may contact directly prior to March 15. (4-H does not endorse any breeders.)
The registration fee of $10 to particpate in the project includes:
•Participation in the regional Rabbit Show at the ECA Fair (prize money available!)
•FREE participation in regional rabbit clinic
•Rabbit Project Manual & Record Book on caring for and raising rabbits into healthy adult rabbits.
