Research Experience for Undergraduates
From Genomes to Phenomes — Exploring Function Across Scales
Clemson University - Department of Biological Sciences
Our REU program seeks students who want to explore seriously the possibility of pursuing a career in biological research. Our program will give 10 undergraduates the opportunity to do the things that scientists like to do best: ask questions, design and carry out experiments, interpret results and communicate findings. The program offers a collegial, multi-disciplinary environment with a focus on an emerging challenge in biology—the need to understand how an organism's phenotype (e.g., its morphology, reproductive success and behavior) is influenced by the interplay of its genotype and environment. Meeting this challenge requires expertise across cellular, organismal and ecological scales. Students will be paired with faculty members who have a strong commitment to working with undergraduate students and promoting the diversity of the biosciences community. Students can choose from a range of disciplines in the life sciences to get hands-on experience designing and carrying out exciting and doable research projects.
