"Disability Issues Around the Globe: Attitudes, Perspectives and Challenges"

Dr. Barbara Hong will deliver her presentation, "Disability Issues Around the Globe: Attitudes, Perspectives and Challenges" as a special education visiting scholar.

Dr. Barbara Hong obtained her Ph.D. from Columbia University in Special Education. She is a Senior Fulbright Scholar, Senior Fulbright Specialist, Fulbright Hays Fellow and a Speaker Specialist in Disabilities, appointed by the State Department Bureau of International Programs. Her research focuses on the cognitive science of teaching and learning as well as college students with disabilities. She has been a professor for 15 years and has taught in New York, Texas A&M International University and Penn State-Altoona.

Dr. Hong is a certified special education teacher, school principal, district administrator, and a recipient of the Teacher-of-Honor title by the International Education Honor Society. She recently worked as the Education Specialist for the Virginia Fairfax County Government, Department of Family Services, and Institute of Early Learning before joining Brigham Young University Hawaii as a Professor and Program Coordinator for Special Education
