Dana Beach Reception and Book Signing

The South Carolina Botanical Garden supports the upcoming presentation of “Reflections on a Seabird Rookery-Deveaux Bank” by Dana Beach, founder of the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League.

Upstate Master Naturalists will have a rare opportunity to hear Dana Beach, founder of the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League, speak in Clemson about Deveaux Bank Seabird Sanctuary.

A reception with Patrick McMillian honoring Dana Beach and benefiting birding at the South Carolina Botanical Garden will be held prior to Dana’s talk. Tickets are $20. Please come join Patrick McMillian, host, co-creator, and writer of the popular, Emmy-award winning ETV nature program Expeditions, along with sponsors including the Keowee/Clemson Bird Club, The Foothills Group of the Sierra Club, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to welcome Dana Beach to Clemson and to learn more about Deveaux Bank and nesting seabirds.

Dana’s 7:15 PM talk is free and open to the public, and signed copies of his book will be available for sale at $39.95. All proceeds will go directly towards the conservation programs of the Coastal Conservation League. Pre-orders may be placed by visiting the CCL website athttp://coastalconservationleague.org.

His presentation, based on his new book, Deveaux, is a reflection on the life of a South Carolina seabird rookery, known as Deveaux Bank at the mouth of the North Edisto River. In his presentation, Dana will chronicle the annual cycle of reproduction and renewal on this ephemeral sand bar, and he will feature the work of the scientists and conservationists who labor to understand and protect it. Dana’s stories and photographs will be a moving reminder of the fragility, beauty, and natural diversity found in South Carolina.
