The Spartanburg Small Business Development Center, SCORE, and the Greer Development Corporation are pleased to announce the final seminar in the 2014
Greer Small Business Series.
September 16, 2014: Commercializing Technical Products
This seminar will be conducted by Doug Lineberry and Jim Denning, Attorneys at Law, with the McNair Law Firm in Greenville, SC.
Doug will explain the various ways that an inventor can protect his/her product: patents, trademarks, trade secrets and/or copyrights. He will review the filing process for each and the usual costs involved. He will explain the need for preliminary drawings (needed for filings) and how to work with design engineers and product developers so that the product is ready for manufacturing. Doug will also discuss the need for and proper contents of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that can be used by inventors as the business plan is developed and initial discussions take place with suppliers, partners and/or investors.
Jim will review legal structures available to inventors and the benefits of each, depending on the type of product, how you plan to fund and grow, and other considerations. Jim will also discuss how to establish relationships with product designers, developers, manufacturers, and distributors through the use of contracts. He will provide an overview of key elements of licensing agreements.
The workshop will be held at the Greer Development Corporation, 111-B South Main Street, Greer, SC 29650 2nd floor conference room from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. The workshop is free. Please register online at www.clemson.edu/sbdc
