As we know, Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have caused significant devastation throughout the Gulf region, South Florida, and the Caribbean. Some of you may be aware that Clemson has an emerging Caribbean Initiative, which aims to promote, support, coordinate, and expand linkages in teaching, research and scholarship, and service between Clemson University and the Caribbean region. There is a seed grant program underway, and a strategic plan has been drafted.
The devastation in the Caribbean region requires a rapid and thoughtful response from American universities engaged in the region. The Clemson Caribbean Initiative Steering Committee has called an emergency meeting of faculty, staff, and students to develop immediate, mid-term, and long-term responses to the disaster. The meeting will take place Tuesday 26 September 8:30a-10:30a in Ballroom B of the Hendrix Center. All faculty, staff, and students with an interest in the Caribbean region and responding to the disaster are encouraged to participate--even if you cannot attend the entire meeting, your input is important. We are working to provide connectivity for those not on the main campus.
Thank you, and we hope you can join us in this important effort.
