CITI Workshop: Introduction to Linux and Desktop Virtual Machines

This short course offers participants a guided VM installation and configuration using Oracle's VirtualBox software. Each participant will use his/her own Windows or Mac laptop to install Linux in the VM created during this course. Basic Linux desktop system administration tasks and VM configuration steps will be covered. After configuring VMs, we will proceed through an introduction to Linux intended for anyone who needs the command-line skills necessary for using the Palmetto cluster. Topics covered will include user accounts, permissions, the Bash shell, navigation, useful commands, manipulating files and folders, text editors, installing and running programs.
